“Vera dreams of the sea” the debut future film written by Doruntina Basha and directed by Kaltrina Krasniqi, will be premiered at one of the oldest and best film festivals in the world, Venice Film Festival.
The film si officailly compiting in the Orizzonti program, where the vice president is the Bosnian director, Jasmila Zbaniç.
Awards competing for: The Best Film, The Best Directed Film, Special Jury Prize, Best Actor and Actress, and The Best Screenplay.
Synopsis: “Vera’s quiet daily life is disturbed by her husband’s sudden suicide, that puts her in an unwanted parade of her cousins threats, claiming they have ownership ower her family home in the village. When the tendencies of an underground scheme begin to emerge, Vera’s world deals with danger that feels like drowning her. Fear and distrust, pushed her take her family’s fate onto her hands”.
Submerged into a tense situation, “Vera dreams of the sea”, is an intimate but also universal portrait of a woman who fights the harsh reality of gender inequality, rooted deeply in even today's society.
The director Krasniqi pronounced: “During this seven years journey dealing with many challenges, I was determined to give a voice to the women in mezomoshe[L1] – a generation that is rarely tackled in the films, and literature as well. In the other hand, this generation is covered by many stereotypes. Vera’s struggle for owning her family property unfolds a political and cultural environmet, build based on inequalities, which we need to think collectively about – not just in Kosovo, but globally as well - but not negotiating with tradition this time. I am very honored that the film will be pemiered this September, at one of the festivals of my dreams – Venice Film Festival”.
This is a very important year to our cinematography and I feel glad that the film directed by me is part of it.

The film is a co-production of Kosovo (Isstra Creative Workshop, Vera Films), North Macedonia (Dream Factory) and Albania (Papadhimitri Productions), supported by the Kosovo Cinematography Center, Film Agency of North Macedonia and The National Cinematography Center.
The project was presented and developed at Midpoint, Sarajevo FF work in progress, Prifest, Seatle IFF work in progress, First cut lab and it is supported by the Municipality of Pristina, MCYS, and Kosovo Assembly.
